BMW M2 Rendering Based on New Leaked Photos

Yesterday, we saw some leaked photos that were allegedly of the upcoming BMW M2’s bumper. The bumper was no the ground and it showed off what looked to be the new M2’s grille and front air intakes. Since then, a render was released, showing off what the BMW M2 could look like with that very bumper.

The idea behind this render is simple — take the newly released BMW 2 Series Coupe and slap the leaked M2 bumper onto its face. Obviously, it’s more complicated than that, and I envy graphic artists’ ability to make such things, but that’s the basic idea behind it.

It’s an interesting looking car, this BMW M2 render. Its grilles are different than those of the 2 Series Coupe and, honestly, I’m not so sure that’s a good thing. I actually really like the new 2er’s mug but I’m not so sure I like this M2’s. Also, the very square front air intakes look odd and don’t really match the curves of the rest of the front end. Almost nothing on the front of the 2 Series is squared, so throwing square front air intakes is a bit jarring.

What’s also interesting is that BMW M seems to want to really visually differentiate its cars from the standard BMWs on which they’re based. Why can’t the grilles and most of the front end stay mostly the same? Why not just add some more aggressive front air intakes, maybe a hood bulge, and call it a day? The E46 M3 is still the best looking M3 of all and its differences are subtle.

Admittedly, this doesn’t look bad and if the BMW M2 does end up looking like this render, I don’t think too many enthusiasts will have a problem with it. Especially if it’s killer to drive, which I think it will be.

BMW 2 Series Convertible already rendered, looks enticing

We’re truly living in the age of speed. No, we’re not referring to the speed of the newly launched BMW 2 Series Coupe but rather to the speed with which renderings of different body types inspired by the new BMW are popping up online. Yesterday marked the premiere of the car and today we’re already looking at how a 2 Series Convertible could shape up.

The exercise is definitely on the fun side of things since BMW has no plans to introduce a second generation 2 Series Convertible. The original didn’t sell that great and we should be grateful for even getting a second Coupe version with a rear-wheel drive setup, as BMW initially planned to axe it.

Their original plans, of making everything below the 3 Series ride on the UKL platform were eventually dropped, allegedly thanks to pressure from customers and good sales figures. In the case of the Convertible though, things didn’t go as well.

While we love convertibles, we do understand why BMW probably decided not to offer a drop top version of the 2 Series also. In this day and age, every cent must be carefully directed towards the most important projects and, right now, that would be the electrifying of every single car on sale. Therefore, developing a 2 Series Convertible, especially considering the sales numbers, wasn’t a top priority in Munchen.

Nevertheless, we can imagine what it could look like, thanks to Theo Throttle who penned such an alternative. It looks enticing enough, emphasizing those wide hips at the back. It would be nice to see such a proposal from BMW. Even though it’s not pictured, this car would have a soft top, as no other Bavarian model uses a hard top these days anymore. Thoughts?

LEAKED: 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe in Thundernight metallic

With just a few days before its world debut, the 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe leaked on the interwebs. The “news” comes as no surprise considering that most, if not all, new BMW cars have been leaked in the last few years. And when it comes to the new G42 2 Series, the first leak actually occurred in 2020.

The leaked image points to a BMW M240i model in the new Thundernight metallic color which was seen in several spy photos. The front-end doesn’t get the massive grille from recent BMW models, but it does alter some fundamental BMW design cues. And the most obvious one is the single circular LED light reminiscent of BMW 02 models.

The functional kidney grille also gets a new interpretation, in a way similar to the BMW Z4 Roadster. The wide kidneys give the car an even more impressive stance on the road and has a single frame design. The inner slates of the kidneys have also been redesigned and look quite different than any other BMW today.

Moving towards the lower front-fascia and you will be immediately greeted by massive air curtains which are easily the most aggressive and dynamic element on this new design. It also sets the bar quite high for the upcoming G87 M2. The lower air intake is equally impressive in size and sportiness.

Last but not least important design cue on this 2022 BMW 2 Series (M240i) is the reshaped active bonnet featuring a power dome. Of course, we can’t ignore the M side mirrors and the flared fenders of the new 2 Series Coupe which turn this new model into one of the most attractive ones of the current BMW lineup.

Unfortunately, the materials are still under embargo until July 6th at 6PM Eastern Time, but as always, we will have plenty of things to share with you after the embargo expiration. So stay tuned on BMWBLOG and on all of our social media channels (@BMWBLOG) and Youtube.

More Spy Photos of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer Surface

The next-generation BMW 2 Series Active Tourer seems like it could be a bit more interesting than we originally thought. Despite being a front-wheel drive minivan, the next-gen 2 Series AT is shaping up to be a car that could actually be a bit less dull. New spy photos have shown the 2 Series AT with a new, sportier design that (dare I say it?) actually looks… good. (We don’t own the spy photos but they can be seen here)

Well, it looks about as good as a small minivan can look. Rather than looking like a lame-duck people mover, the second-generation BMW 2 Series Active Tourer looks more like a big hot-hatchback. In fact, with camouflage on, it almost looks like a big Ford Focus RS at a quick glance. BMW fans might cringe at that comparison but a Focus RS is more interesting than the last-gen 2AT, so that’s actually a compliment.

Up front, it gets rather massive new grilles, though they are smaller and less absurd than those of the new 4 Series. It also gets new, sharper looking headlights, a slick roof spoiler and even subtly flared rear wheel arches. When it actually hits the road, it’s absolutely possible that it’s about as interesting to drive as a Yugo simulator but at least it will look interesting enough.

Boring as it may be, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is a great car for its customers. It’s not designed to be fun but to be a premium, comfortable and practical people mover. In that endeavor, the BMW 2AT has always been quite successful, which is why it’s sold so well. So with better looks and an improved driving experience, even if it’s still boring for enthusiasts, the next-gen 2 Series AT will likely be a very successful car for the Bavarian brand, especially if it can electrify the little minivan.
