It certainly has been a long time since we last talked about a project from Zacoe as few will likely remember the widebody M2 Coupe from June 2018. The aftermarket shop has been keeping itself rather busy since then considering its current portfolio has basically all the latest M models, plus the M135i hot hatchback. Their more recent project is split into two packages, one for the M3 (G80) and the other for the M4 Coupe (G82).

They’ve taken a less is more approach by resisting the temptation of making the M duo overly aggressive as some of the other tuners are eager to do. Nevertheless, the prominent wing at the back does let you know immediately this isn’t your typical M3 or M4. Zacoe mentions it’s more than just for show since it has been conceived to bring real benefits in terms of aerodynamic by increasing the amount of downforce at the rear axle for better grip and stability. They also swapped out the trunk lid spoiler for a custom piece to better go along with the large wing.

Moving at the front, the two BMW M cars can be fitted with a spoiler lip made from carbon fiber that rises towards the corners of the bumper. Zacoe also modified the side skirts for a bit more visual impact without adding too much weight thanks to the carbon fiber construction of the extensions. We’d argue these add-ons serving essentially as a grounds effect kit go along quite well with the OEM carbon fiber roof

For two cars that were unveiled only a little over a year ago, it sure feels like we’ve been talking about custom M3s and M4s from the current generation for a long time. The BMW M division on its own has developed a series of optional M Performance upgrades to make the sporty sedan and coupe look even more aggressive. Perhaps the most striking option you can have is the center-mounted quad exhaust system that has created a lot of controversies.

With the M3 Touring (G81) finally coming in 2022, you can rest assured Zacoe and other tuners are anxious to get their hands on the belated speedy wagon.

BMW M4 GT3 will start its racing career at the Dubai 24-hour race

The final tests for the BMW M4 GT3 were held at Daytona in December, bringing the test phase to a close. In the hands of BMW M Motorsport teams, the new GT flagship is now ready for its first races. The first official race the M4 GT3 will compete in will be held in Dubai, in January. After that, the new GT car will travel to the US, to compete in the traditional season opener in Daytona.

“After all the testing, we can hardly wait for our BMW M Motorsport teams and drivers to finally go head to head with quality opposition on the racetrack,” said Mike Krack, Head of BMW M Motorsport. “So far, everyone who has driven the BMW M4 GT3 has been extremely positive about it. As such, we are confident that we will be competitive from the word go and in a position to challenge for top results. The extremely high demand for the BMW M4 GT3 has exceeded our expectations. We are very pleased and honored by this trust. We are now looking forward to seeing how our new car fares in the hands of many different drivers and teams at racetracks and in racing series all over the world.”

The 24 Hours of Dubai takes place on the 14th and 15th of January, and Schubert Motorsport has already registered BMW M works driver Nick Yelloly, Jordan Witt, Marcel Lenerz, and Jens Liebhauser in the #30 BMW M4 GT3 for the event. ST Racing has two cars in the starting lineup. The #28 BMW M4 GT3, which, like Schubert Motorsport, is registered for the top GT3 class, will be driven by Jon Miller, Chandler Hull, Nick Wittmer, and Louis-Philippe Montour.

Samantha Tan, Bryson Morris, Anthony Lazzaro, Harry Gottsacker, and Tyler Maxson will split driving responsibilities in the number one car in the Pro-Am class. BMW Team RLL and Turner Motorsport will compete in the “Rolex 24” in Daytona two weeks later with a total of three BMW M4 GT3s. Jens Klingmann, a BMW M works driver, will drive for Turner Motorsport in the GTD class, with Bill Auberlen, Robby Foley, and Michael Dinan.

In January, the drivers for the two BMW M4 GT3s in the GTD-PRO class will be revealed. For Walkenhorst Motorsport, the season begins in February. The Melle team intends to compete in the Asian Le Mans Series with two BMW M4 GT3s. Nick Catsburg, Jon Miller, and Chandler Hull will pilot the #34 car, while team principal Henry Walkenhorst, Jörg Breuer, Friedrich, and Mario von Bohlen will pilot the #35 car. Two 4-hour races will be held in Dubai on the 11th and 12th of February, and two 4-hour races will be held in Abu Dhabi on the 19th and 20th of February. All of the other teams will receive their vehicles well ahead of the start of their respective racing series’ seasons.

The BMW M4 CSL Probably Won’t be a Manual and That’s Okay

At the moment, we’re told that the upcoming BMW M4 CSL is going to be rear-wheel drive-only and will only use an automatic transmission. While we’re also told that a manual transmission option is not 100 percent off the table, it’s still highly unlikely that we’ll see an M4 CSL manual. And you know what, that’s okay.

When the BMW M4 CSL debuts, it’s going to be the most powerful M3/M4 of all time, making somewhere around 550-560 horsepower from its 3.0 liter twin-turbo I6. We don’t know if torque will increase much but, judging my other upgraded BMW M models, probably not. Yet, even the M3/M4 Competition — which makes 479 lb-ft of torque — is only available with an automatic transmission. While BMW could likely offer a manual transmission that could handle the torque, the shift quality wouldn’t be great.

BMW M has already said that to make manual transmissions capable of handling all of that torque can result in poor shift quality. Making a manual that can handle all that power and shift nicely is likely quite expensive and BMW doesn’t seem very interested in investing money into manual transmissions.

Since BMW isn’t very interested in investing in manuals, if the M4 CSL were to get a manual, it’d likely be the same six-speed unit as in the standard M3/M4. And that one isn’t great. The shift quality is very rubbery and doesn’t like to be rushed. If BMW could offer a 911 GT3-style manual in the M4 CSL — with the Porsche’s slick, well-oiled feeling shift quality — we’d be all for it. But that’s doubtful, given BMW’s modern track record.

BMW M3 Manual Test Drive 34 of 37 830x550BMW M3 Manual Test Drive 34 of 37 830x550

However, the eight-speed automatic, while not quite as snappy as the old dual-clutch unit, works very well in the M4 Competition. It also feels as if the engine was built for that transmission from the jump, as the powertrain calibration is nothing short of perfect.

In a perfect world, would we want to see a BMW M4 CSL with a slick-shifting manual transmission? Of course. But this isn’t a perfect world and the economics of the current automotive market likely mean that BMW isn’t giving the CSL a manual and even if it were to, it’d be a lackluster unit. I don’t know about you but I think the M4 CSL would be better off with a great automatic than a subpar manual. So we’re almost certainly not going to see a manual CSL but, honestly, that’s okay.

2022 BMW M4 Convertible gallery updated with new photos

A day after the official unveil of the new 2022 BMW M4 Convertible, the folks at M decided to give us some new photos of the stylish and sporty cabriolet. The initial photo gallery focused on the exterior design and driving photos, but this updated photo gallery takes us inside the car. We also get to see some close-up details of the convertible. As we reported yesterday, the BMW M4 Convertible is based on the M4 Coupe, just with its roof chopped. With the roof down, its sleek body lines, smooth surfaces, and gracefully swollen wheel arches give it an elegant, yet muscular look. With the roof up, which is now a soft-top, it looks like a classy, performance GT car.

The new folding soft-top is 40-percent lighter than the outgoing hard-top, which does a few things. It allows for BMW to add the increased structural bracing required when removing the fixed roof, without adding as much to the overall curb weight. It also significantly reduces the center of gravity, versus the old car, which increases agility and provides better driving feel.

It opens and closes in eighteen seconds, this new roof, and can be operated at speeds up to 31 mph. Having a folding soft-top gives the new BMW M4 Convertible more trunk space than its predecessor. So now you get 9.0 cubic feet (284 liters) of space, which is up 1.2 cubic feet (34 liters) from before.

The BMW M4 Convertible will come in only Competition spec, giving it the full-beans 503 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, from its 3.0 liter twin-turbo I6. That engine will only get an eight-speed auto and xDrive all-wheel drive. No manual, no rear-drive for the drop-top M4. According to BMW, 0-60 mph takes 3.6 seconds, which is a few ticks slower than all other M3 and M4 variants.

U.S. production begins in September of 2021 with market launch taking place in October. The U.S. MSRP is set at $86,300 plus $995 Destination. The 2022 M4 Competition Convertible with xDrive features two non-metallic colors, seven metallic colors and two frozen matte colors to choose from.

Is Urban Green the best color on the G82 BMW M4?

Green paintworks are making a comeback at BMW. Over the last few years, BMW and its M Division especially, has released a series of green-painted models. From Oxford Green and Aurora Diamant Green, to the more recent San Remo Green and Isle Of Man Green, the choices are quite diverse. Yet, there is one special green shade which stands above all. At least in our opinion. The Urban Green.

This BMW Individual Color is certainly not new. Some of you might recall the previous generation M3 and M4 featured in Urban Green, and more recently an M8 and M440i. But today, we get to see the very same color featured on the all-new – and somewhat controversial – G82 M4 Coupe. The images provided by BMW M show the subdued and classy green playing perfectly with the blacked out accents of the M4. The sports coupe gains both a more dynamic and luxurious look.

bmw m4 g82 urban green 04 830x553bmw m4 g82 urban green 04 830x553

Of course, if money no object, anyone can order the Urban Green on their BMW. The Individual catalog is open to all customers with deep pockets, but be warned: the paint choice is not always an easy task. If you go down the rabbit hole of colors, you will certainly be mesmerized by the diversity of paintworks. Popular favorites are the likes of Fire OrangeFerrari RedDaytona Violet or Tanzanite Blue.

bmw m4 g82 urban green 07 830x553bmw m4 g82 urban green 07 830x553

In our opinion, the color palette for the new G80 M3 and G82 M4 is one of the best we’ve seen from BMW. From non-metallic to metallic and matte options, there is likely a color for every M owner out there. Non-metallic: Alpine White, Sao Paulo Yellow (new addition). Metallic: Isle of Man Green (new), Toronto Red (new), Sapphire Black, Skyscraper Grey, Portimao Blue, Brooklyn Grey.

The “standard” BMW Individual program is equally exciting with colors like the Frozen White, Frozen Brilliant White, Frozen Black, Frozen Dark Grey, Frozen Orange, Frozen Portimao, Dravit Grey,  Oxide Grey, Tanzanite Blue II, and much more.

In the U.S., the 2021 BMW M3 Sedan has an MSRP of $69,900, nearly $2,500 more than the F80 M3 Sedan. The 2021 BMW M4 starts at $71,800 compared to the $69,150 price on the F82 M4. Of course, BMW offers a Competition model for both variants. The 2021 BMW M3 Competition is priced at $72,800 while the M4 Competition sells for $74,700. All these variants send their power to the rear-wheels only. An all-wheel drive version of the M3 and M4 will arrive in late 2021, and naturally, at a higher price point. To see more of this Urban Green M4, take a look at the photo gallery below:

BMW M3 xDrive and BMW M4 xDrive — U.S. Pricing and Specs Revealed

Ever since whispers of the G80 BMW M3 and G82 BMW M4 first began, we knew it was going to get all-wheel drive. However, details of its all-wheel drive system were murky, at best. Even as both cars neared their official reveal, there was some uncertainty about cars’ upcoming all-wheel drive system. Now, all of that uncertainty is gone, as BMW has finally revealed the specs and pricing for the new M3 and M4 xDrive models.

bmw m3 m4 xDrive 00 830x553bmw m3 m4 xDrive 00 830x553

The BMW M xDrive systems in the new M3 and M4 works very similarly to how it works in the M5. There will be three modes; 4WD, 4WD Sport, and 2WD, just as there are in the M5 and M8. In normal driving conditions, even in the default 4WD mode, all of the engine’s available torque is sent to the rear wheels. Only once the need for more grip arises will the front wheels get any of the car’s torque and, once that happens, power is still delivered in a rear-biased fashion. Though, in the default 4WD mode, the xDrive system is more liberal with its front axle power delivery.

bmw m3 m4 xDrive 02 830x553bmw m3 m4 xDrive 02 830x553

Switch to 4WD Sport mode and the front axle really just becomes more of a rear axle aid. The xDrive system becomes more aggressive and is more willing to let the car slide but will deploy the front axle to save your ass and keep the car from getting too out of control. It’s the fun mode for street driving and the one most enthusiasts will use the majority of the time.

While the 2WD mode is the more extreme mode, as it keeps the front axle disengaged until the driver switches the car back to either of the 4WD modes. However, DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) must be disabled entirely for 2WD mode to be used, so it’s recommended that it’s only used on track.

This new BMW M xDrive system is tied into both the DSC and the rear M Active Differential, for more rapid responses to available grip and better dynamics. That said, the transfer case for the all-wheel drive system gets its own control unit and traction management system, to compensate for rotational differences between the axles, without involving the main DSC. So when you’re sliding out of a corner, the all-wheel drive system can manage the torque split on its own, without having to bring traction control in.

Only BMW M3 Competition and M4 Competition models will be available with xDrive. So to get xDrive, you can only have the more powerful 503 horsepower 479 lb-ft engine, with an automatic transmission. That said, M3 Comp and M4 Comp xDrive models will be the fastest versions of the M3 and M4 available, with both cars getting from 0-60 mph in a claimed 3.4 seconds. Don’t be surprised if both can get closer to 3.0 seconds flat in real world testing.

Interestingly, M3 and M4 Competition xDrive models get revised front axle geometry, along with a new steering ratio — changed from 15.0:1 to 14.6:1 — to ensure both cars deliver the same athleticism that we’ve come to expect from them, with the added traction and weight up front. The oil system has also been adapted to handle the increased grip.

Aside from that, both the BMW M3 and BMW M4 Competition xDrive models are unchanged from standard Comp models. Same looks, same options, and same interiors. The BMW M3 Competition xDrive starts at $76,900, while the M4 Competition xDrive starts at $78,800, with $995 destination fees added to both. Both cars will go on sale in the U.S. in August, 2021.

BMW G80 M3 and G82 M4 vs. F80 M3 CS – Design Comparison Video

We take a visual tour of the newly released BMW G80 M3 in Brooklyn Grey Metallic as well as the BMW G82 M4 finished in Toronto Red Metallic. Furthermore, we’re looking at how the new M cars compare to its older brother, the F80 M3 CS. The latter is finished in the BMW Individual San Marino Blue Metallic paint. For this comparison, we went to BMW Seattle who provided both the G80 M3 and G82 M4.

The Youtube footage (subscribe here) was shot entirely via drone, and now you’ll see a clear view of the now famous/infamous (depending on your taste) front kidney grille design. It’s no secret that the new design approach for the G8X generation that BMW has taken has caused quite a stir in the automotive industry. There are fans and critics on both sides of the kidney grille. While the die-hard community might not be entirely sold on it – yet – the regular BMW customer seem to enjoy the bold design approach.

Whether BMW has a winning design on their hands, remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: The new BMW M3 and M4 models are certainly at the top of car conversations in the world. The driving experience certainly lives up to the expectations and the interior is arguably the best we’ve seen so far on an M car. The chassis and steering have also been improved by the wizards in Garching, while the xDrive system makes the new M3/M4 a year-round commuting car.

Be sure to share your thoughts and opinions via a comment below! Do you like the new design? What are your thoughts on Brooklyn Grey or Toronto Red? What about San Marino Blue? And please don’t forget to subscribe to our Youtube channel!

Video: New M4 Competition vs RS5 and C63 AMG Drag Race

The The New BMW M4 Competition Coupe UK 10The The New BMW M4 Competition Coupe UK 10

The BMW M4 Competition has just been unveiled and we’re already looking at various drag races. From the Porsche 911 to the Giulia QV, the new M4 Competition is already having to prove its worth. The one drag race we’re all waiting for though is posted here, featuring the arch rivals from Germany, namely the Audi RS5 and Mercedes-AMG C63 S.

Before you watch the video though you need to check out the specs and the transmission setups too. The Mercedes-AMG C63 S is the oldest car here so it’s only natural we’re going over its specs first. So, the engine under the hood is a 4-liter twin-turbo V8 making 510 PS and 700 Nm of torque. It is connected to a 9-speed automatic gearbox and all the power is sent to the rear wheels. 0-100 km/h is claimed to take 4 seconds flat.

The new BMW M4 Coupe in the US 13 830x553The new BMW M4 Coupe in the US 13 830x553

The Audi RS5 is the second oldest car here. It uses a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 good for 450 PS and 600 Nm of torque and all of it is sent to the four corners of the car via an 8-speed automatic transmission and, of course, quattro all-wheel drive. The quoted 0-100 km/h time is said to be 3.9 seconds and, unlike in the case of the RWD Mercedes, it can actually do that on a variety of surfaces.

Last, but not least, we have the new BMW M4 Competition, for now only in RWD guise. It uses a 3-liter straight six twin-turbo engine making 510 PS and 650 Nm of torque, sent to the rear axle through an 8-speed automatic gearbox with Launch Control. As you might expect, from standstill, the Audi will win 9 times out of 10, at least until the M4 Competition gets its all-wheel drive system in check. But what about other scenarios? Well, only one way to find out.

The G80 BMW M3 Might Have the Best Color Palettes of Any M3 Ever

BMW M has a reputation for offering excellent color options for its cars. Iconic colors like Laguna Seca Blue, Dakar Yellow and Techno Violet are all burnt into the memories of BMW purists. However, in recent years, M car colors have become a bit predictable, especially in cars like the M5 and M8. However, with this new BMW M3 (and M4), it seems as if the folks in Garching have returned to form, as the new G80 has one of the best color palettes of any M car in history.

Before even getting into special Individual colors, the G80 BMW M3 offers several interesting and vibrant colors that will make owners’ cars stand out from the seemingly endless sea of black, white and grey sports cars.

2021 bmw m4 Yacht Club de Monaco 02 830x5532021 bmw m4 Yacht Club de Monaco 02 830x553
@ugomissana

For starters, two of BMW’s now-signature Frozen colors are offered from the factory, without having to special order them or choose a special model. You can get a base-model M3 with either Frozen Portimao Blue or Frozen Brilliant White, right from the standard order sheet. Some enthusiasts bemoan BMW’s Frozen colors, as they’re a bit more finnicky and require more maintenance, but it’s nice to have the option.

Then there are the more interesting tame colors, such as Oxide Grey, which is grey but has a bit of champagne to its hue that really makes it unique. There’s also Toronto Red which is a pretty standard red but it’s metallic and has a nice pop to it.

However, there’s one more really interesting metallic color that makes the G80 BMW M3 truly unique — Isle of Man Green. Named after the Sovereign State of the UK, a little island in the Irish Sea, Isle of Man Green has a British Racing Green vibe that’s out of character in a German sport sedan but also really endearing. BMW M doesn’t often put out deep greens such as this, so it’s really refreshing to see.

2021 bmw m3 frozen brilliant white m4 toronto red 830x5532021 bmw m3 frozen brilliant white m4 toronto red 830x553

Lastly, there’s the most interesting and beguiling of all the colors for the new M3 — Sau Paulo Yellow. It’s a non-metallic color that’s so bright and vibrant one risks searing one’s retinas upon closer inspection. While the color is a bit controversial, it is so in a good way. It’s bright and fun and hilarious and while, objectively, I don’t quite love it, I love that it exists. It’s such a happy, silly color that proves BMW M still has a sense of humor, even if the color is only offered on a car that sports one of the most cynical designs in the entire automotive industry.

Which leads me to my next point. It’s a shame that BMW is offering such fantastic colors on a car with such a polarizing design. If you don’t like the new design, it’s hard to appreciate the new colors and, as a potential BMW M3 customer, that must be frustrating. Still, take the good with the bad and try and at least appreciate the fact that BMW is selling cool colors to begin with. Even if they’re on a car that looks like Nosferatu on HGH.

VIDEO: Watch the BMW M3 and M4 Reveal From BMW Canada

Each and every country sub-division of BMW had its own version of the M3 and M4 launch, obviously. BMW USA had its reveal, as did BMW Germany and every other major country in which BMW is located. One such launch was from BMW Canada and the live video reveal had a lot of detail about the new cars.

Hosting the video is National Manager of BMW M for BMW Canada, Kevin Marcotte, along with Matthew Wilson, National Manager of Product Planning for BMW Canada.

2021 bmw m3 g80 bmw m4 g82 89 664x8302021 bmw m3 g80 bmw m4 g82 89 664x830

In the video, you get to learn just about everything you need to know about the new BMW M3 and M4. They mostly show the BMW M4, likely due to its very camera-friendly Sao Paulo Yellow, but the facts and figures are the same for the M3. The only real difference between the two, mechanically, is that the M3 is a few pounds heavier.

However, all of the important bits are the same, including the 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged engine, which comes in two flavors; 480 horsepower and 510 horsepower. As you learn in this video, there are a few ways you can configure your M3 or M4, with different combinations of transmission and drivetrain choices. Admittedly, the available configurations aren’t as vast as we once thought, as the standard M3 is only available with a manual and rear-wheel drive, but this is still the most versatile M3 in history.

2021 bmw m3 g80 bmw m4 g82 83 664x8302021 bmw m3 g80 bmw m4 g82 83 664x830

You also get to see the new interior of the BMW M4 Competition, which is far different from every other M3/M4 interior. It comes with lightweight carbon fiber buckets, which look great, and even carbon fiber paddle shifters. The latter of which are far more interesting than the typical little ones you get on every other BMW.

This video is especially helpful if you live in the Canadian market, as you know everything in this video will be available to you as a Canadian customer.
